ICA San Francisco presents Lily Kwong: EARTHSEED DOME | Behind the Scenes Happy Hour
Join us for the inaugural event in a new quarterly series with the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco (ICA SF), featuring an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at one of the city’s most ambitious public art projects: Lily Kwong: EARTHSEED DOME.
We’ll begin with a casual meet-up at CANOPY Jackson Square before walking together to Transamerica Redwood Park for a guided, insider walkthrough by ICA SF of the sculpture that quite literally grows over time, 3D-printed by Atelio from seed-impregnated living soil.
This “living dome” blends ancestral earth-building practices with advanced technology, marking Lily Kwong’s first Bay Area installation and her most ambitious work to date. During San Francisco Art Week, fabrication is visible to the public as the structure emerges brick by brick, offering a rare chance to see ecological art take shape from the ground up.

- 3:30 PM – Meet at the 4th Floor Elevator Bank, CANOPY Jackson Square
- 3:45 PM – Group walk to Transamerica Redwood Park
- 4:00–5:00 PM – Behind-the-scenes walkthrough with ICA SF
Fun fact: Once complete, EARTHSEED DOME will continue to evolve—embedded seeds will bloom over spring and summer, transforming the sculpture into a living seed-dispersal hub and inviting visitors to act as pollinators as they move through the city.
